THE LAST P5M MARLIN

The last flight by a U.S. Navy P5M-2 (SP-5B) Martin Marlin took place in 1968.
That aircraft, BUNO 135533,
which was part of VP-40 in San Diego, was originally
turned over to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, but ultimately was transferred
to
the National Naval Aviation Museum, in Pensacola, Florida, where it is today.
All of the other remaining P5M's have been reduced to scrap.

This photo series, taken during a recent visit to the museum, is an effort to document that
aircraft, the outside and inside, as it is today in the museum at Pensacola, and to take
a fond look at the last of it's kind, the U.S. Navy flying boat.

I served in P5M's with VP-44 at Breezy Point, NAS Norfolk, VA during 1953-1956.
